Aunty Alan is the explorative solo project of Mid North Coast raised musician Al Thompson. Growing up on Birapai land with music filling every corner of their upbringing, making sound was more a lifestyle than a choice, and was wholeheartedly nurtured from a young age.  Now based in Newcastle, she writes songs that are as emotionally open as they are sonically textured, reflecting experiences of love & loss.

Vocally, Aunty Alans approach sits deeply within creating interesting interweaved melodies that complement dissonance and ethereal chord progressions. Shaped more by feeling than form & gently echoing artists like Nai Palm of Hiatus Kaiyote and Yakumi Nagano of Little Dragon. With songwriting that draws from bands such as Unknown Mortal Orchestra & Crumb, as well as timeless classics such as Fleetwood Mac & Billy Joel.

The iterations of Aunty Alans songwriting span both acoustic and full band sonic landscapes. Working in collaboration with her band mates from Stagger, as well as recruiting local songbirds for backing vocals, the softness of Als solo sound is transformed into intricate and undiluted whimsical fairy rock.

Since relocating to Newcastle, shes carved a place in the local scene as a thoughtful collaborator and bassist, performing in a range of bands while honing a solo sound that feels entirely her own.
