Formed in 2018, Gilsons isnt your average family band.
The trio, representing two generations of one of Brazil's most legendary families, balance original music with an homage to the music of Gilberto Gil, their father (Jose) and grandfather (Francisco, Joao).
Known far and wide as one of the progenitors of the countercultural and widely popular tropicalia movement, Gilberto remains one of the biggest names in Musica Popular Brasileira.
Though a seemingly impossible task, Gilsons builds upon the Gil family musical lineage with their blend of pop rock, samba, reggae, and Bahian (northeastern Brazil) rhythms.
The band's debut album, Pra Gente Acordar, earned a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Pop Album in Portuguese Language, and theyve taken to the stages of many of Brazils major festivals including Lollapalooza Brazil, and, alongside another national musical icon, Jorge Aragao, for over 100,000 people, at the Rock in Rio festival.
