HOLOCENE, with Via Alpina and Bell Tower Letdown at the Last Chance.
1990s indie pop darlings Holocene, return to earth with some select gigs, and reissued album.
HOLOCENE invites you to a special show at the Last Chance Rock And Roll Bar (238 Victoria St,
Melbourne) to help celebrate the imminent rerelease of Spurr on LP and CD, and lead track
Celestion. Holocenes guests along for the magic carpet ride are bright young melodysmiths Via
Alpina, and Perth jangle diaspora supergroup Bell Tower Letdown (members of Beekepers,
Ammonia, Blueline Medic etc).
Back in the 1990s, Australian alternative bands such as You Am I, Even, Ratcat and Jebadiah were
kicking goals by melding smart, creative pop songwriting with brash, exciting guitars, for a swoony,
heady musical experience. Melbourne band HOLOCENE were part of this push, inhabiting the
Fitzroyaly scene, based around Brunswick Street venues such as the Punters Club and The Evelyn.
Astring of well-received EPs (featuring Pop Astronauts, Guitarbarella and Flying) lead up to the bands
album Spurr (long since out of print).
Now, 2025 sees the album newly remastered and given the deluxe LP treatment for its 30th
anniversary, with bonus tracks and coloured vinyl options. Exuberant lead track Celestion will be
hitting the airwaves leading up to the album, and Holocene are back playing again, bringing back the
melodies, the vocal harmonies and the exuberant guitar interplay that created such an impact the
first time around.
Holocenes show at the Last Chance will be held on Sunday 12th October with doors at 2pm.
Tickets $10 plus booking fee in advance, or $15 entry at the door.
(Yummy food is available from the Last Chance kitchen too.)
