Come join us for an afternoon of top-shelf local live music at Cross Street Music Hall. The September installation of the Cross St Sunday series will see the return of Moreland City Soul Revue, along with Buttered Loaf and virtuoso guitarist Kathleen Halloran, for your musical delight. The vibes will be good, the drinks will be cheap & it's family friendly so tell all your friends, snap up some tickets and head on down to Cross St for an outstanding gig!

Here's a bit about your hosts:

MCSR - The Moreland City Soul Revue (MCSR) was conceived when founding members Jed Pickett (guitar) and Adrian Whitehead (Hammond organ) attended a protest rally at Trades Hall, and had the sudden realisation that the way to reach the masses was not through marching, but music. Applying the maxim charity begins at home to protest, they investigated the local council, and discovered that they neednt worry about Moreland City, they know what theyre doing. Using this for inspiration, they started the search for other musicians who would share their passion for accountability at all levels of government, similar to that they had found in their local area.

Their first port of call was the rhythm section Brothers, Tim (bass) and Sam (drums), who were quick to jump on board. They enlisted Jacob Cole (guitar). These three newcomers were excited about the potential of this group in promoting the community spirit that their council embodies.

What started out as a protest band, a vehicle to voice their concerns with the global political climate, took an interesting twist when they approached former Pornland front man and vocalist Slatty D, who pointed out The people dont want to hear about our disillusionment with the inadequacies of government, local or otherwise. What they really need is soul. The MCSR was born!

BUTTERED LOAF - Renegades of rock, foragers of funk, doyennes of dub, rascals of roots, and sorcerers of soul, BUTTERED LOAF deliver performances of blistering, tone-bending musical thuggery that will blow beards, tickle moustaches, and tip food trucks for miles around. Hold on to your expensive miniature tacos, people, BUTTERED LOAF is an institution not to be overlooked. Featuring Sam Cope on keys (Blue King Brown, The Badloves), Yuri Pavlinov on bass (The Bamboos, The Cat Empire, Renee Geyer Band), Selwyn Cozens on drums (Ruby Jones Experience), Gideon Cozens on guitar (Jane Hillson and the Brunswick Troubadours) and Joe Greenway on sax (Spinning Rooms).

KATHLEEN HALLORAN - Educated on the stage alongside Australias biggest names, guitarist Kathleen Halloran is now stepping out of the shade into her own spotlight. She has performed with the likes of Kate Ceberano, Katie Noonan, Felix Riebl (The Cat Empire), Iva Davies and Tania Doko to name a few. As a session musician her guitar playing has been heard on countless recordings, in orchestra pits for many musical theatre productions, and on major festival stages all around the country. Witness this electrifying guitarist and compelling songwriter making the journey into their own limelight, from side-woman to solo artist. If youre a lover of great guitar playing, or simply a lover of a great musical experience, Kathleen Halloran is not to be missed.
