Mulan at The Revival House Perth

When the Huns invade China, the Emperor decrees that one man from every family must serve in the Imperial Army. For the Fa family, this means Mulan's aging fathera war hero with old injuriesmust answer the call, despite being in no condition to fight. Unable to bear watching her father march to certain death, Mulan makes a choice that will change her life forever: she cuts her hair, steals her father's armor, and takes his place in the army, disguising herself as a man named "Ping." If her deception is discovered, the penalty is death. Under the command of the ambitious Captain Li Shang (BD Wong) and accompanied by her tiny guardian dragon Mushu (Eddie Murphy), Mulan must prove herself in training, survive brutal combat against the ruthless Hun leader Shan Yu (Miguel Ferrer), and ultimately save Chinaall while keeping her true identity hidden.

Directors Tony Bancroft and Barry Cook deliver one of Disney's most emotionally powerful and visually stunning animated features. The 1998 film breaks the traditional princess mold, giving audiences a heroine whose strength comes from intelligence, determination, and sacrifice rather than magic or romance. The animation is breathtakingfrom the delicate cherry blossoms of the opening to the snow-covered mountains where the climactic Hun battle unfolds with genuine epicness. Jerry Goldsmith's sweeping orchestral score blends perfectly with Matthew Wilder and David Zippel's songs, including the empowering "Reflection" and the training montage anthem "I'll Make a Man Out of You." Eddie Murphy's Mushu provides comic relief without undermining the story's emotional stakes, while the film thoughtfully explores themes of honor, identity, and what it truly means to be a hero.
