Noosa Chamber Music: The Belgian Solution (Noosaville Concert)

Not quite wind, not quite brass; wherever the saxophone goes, it goes boldly. The Belgian inventor Adolphe Sax was more than an artisan. His improvements to wind and brass instruments were not optimisations but evolutions. The Sax-o-phone was one of several attempts to create a hybrid of woodwind and brass instruments, and the most successful of them. The saxophone was too bold for the orchestra, but in exile, it found its place in the musical world.

Janet Brewer joins saxophonist Sacha Gibbs-McPhee in a program of chamber music featuring Schumann at his most romantic, some Brazillian dances by Milhaud, peaceful Bozza, bold Piazzolla, Sublime Rachmaninoff, and a little bit of smooth jazz.
