Shine On Gimuy is an immersive First Nations arts, culture and ideas festival, led by Artistic Director, Rhoda Roberts AO.  Held along the glistening foreshore of tropical Gimuy/Cairns, our 2024 festival will bring the Esplanade and Salt House Festival Hub to life from 3-13 October.

Hosted by the Yidinji Nation, on their homelands, our festival is a celebration of all forms of First Nations storytelling, showcasing innovative arts and cultural practices, as well as illuminating insights in science and industry.  Countryand First Nations peoples' connections to Countryare integral to our festival.

In 2024 visitors can experience the signature events:

  • Calling Country Ceremony (a coming-together of dance groups from local and neighbouring Nations and clan groupsa ceremony not performed for a century until 2023's event),
  • Deep Wisdom Talks (a series of symposium topics, remarking on philosophy, science, the arts, culture, and politics),
  • Music Makers performances (featuring world-renowned and emerging talent),
