Beloved San Francisco songwriter
Sonny Smith returns to Australian shores this October with his cult garage-pop/folk-rock outfit
Sonny & The Sunsets this time backed by an all-star Aussie lineup featuring
Steph Hughes (
Dick Diver,
Boomgates),
Shaun Gionis (
The Green Child,
Boomgates) and
Mark Monnone (
The Lucksmiths,
Monnone Alone). Think jangly riffs, melodic warmth and plenty of character - the band will play a one-off show of guitars, twang and charm in
Balnarring, at the
Social Club Balnarring on
Sunday 5th October. Across more than a dozen albums,
Sonny & The Sunsets have built a world all their own one of sun-faded boardwalks, late-night diners, lonesome motel rooms and backstreet parties. The bands sound blends 60s pop, garage rock, country soul, doo-wop and lo-fi folk, woven together by Sonnys unmistakable voice and gently surreal storytelling. A true cult figure in the American indie world, Sonnys work spans far beyond music hes also a playwright, filmmaker, and visual artist, and that creativity spills into every show. Expect an evening of offbeat charm, disarming honesty, and melodies youll be humming long after the lights come up a rare and intimate performance from one of indie musics most quietly beloved figures.
