Sonny & the Sunsets

Beloved San Francisco songwriter Sonny Smith returns to Australian shores this October with his cult garage-pop/folk-rock outfit Sonny & The Sunsets - this time backed by an all-star Aussie line-up featuring Steph Hughes (Dick Diver, Boomgates), Shaun Gionis (The Green Child, Boomgates) and Mark Monnone (The Lucksmiths, Monnone Alone). With jangly charm, melodic warmth and plenty of character, the band will play in Anglesea for The Sound Doctor on Saturday 4 October.

Across more than a dozen albums, Sonny & The Sunsets have built a world all their own - one of sun-faded boardwalks, late-night diners, lonesome motel rooms and backstreet parties. The bands sound blends '60s pop, garage rock, country soul, doo-wop and lo-fi folk, woven together by Sonnys unmistakable voice and gently surreal storytelling. A true cult figure in the American indie world, Sonnys work spans far beyond music - hes also a playwright, filmmaker and visual artist, and that creativity spills into every show.

Expect an evening of offbeat charm, disarming honesty and melodies youll be humming long after the lights come up - a rare and intimate performance from one of indie musics most quietly beloved figures.
